The Banks Dual-Heat Upgrade Kit is designed around RAM's block heating recommendations.
RAM recommends the use of a block heater at 0°F/-17°C and mandates its use at -20°F/-29°C. Failure to follow these instructions could lead to premature wear and/or failure of key components, including pistons, rings, and cylinder walls.
We followed RAM's cold start recommendations. Per the owner's manual, RAM recommends the use of the block heater when the temperature drops below 0°F/-17°C and mandates the block heater at temperatures below -20°F/-29°C.
Using a controlled climate chamber, our first test utilized block heat and two Banks coil heaters (1500 watts total). The Monster-Ram® enabled our test truck to cold start down to -30°F/-34°C.
Against RAM's recommendations, we also attempted to cold start with the same two coil heaters and no block heat. We were able to cold start down to -20°F/-29°C. Adding a third coil heater (2,250 watts total), the truck started at -30°F/-34°C.*
*Battery boosting may be required for sufficient cranking RPM.
Banks continues to test new solutions for extreme cold starts — down to -40°F/-40°C. With our triple coil heater configuration, the Monster-Ram® and 2,250 watts of heating power, we're pushing the boundaries of cold-weather diesel performance.

The Banks Monster Ram replaces your truck's factory intake elbow — the restrictive plastic tube that feeds air to your turbocharger. The stock piece is one of the biggest airflow bottlenecks in your entire intake system. The Monster Ram is a precision-engineered, mandrel-bent aluminum replacement that dramatically opens up airflow, getting more cool air into your turbo faster.
No. Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, aftermarket parts cannot void your factory warranty unless the dealer can prove the part caused a specific failure. The Monster Ram is a bolt-on air intake component — it won't void your powertrain warranty.
On its own, the Monster Ram improves airflow and reduces intake temps, which supports more efficient combustion. Gains vary by truck, tune, and configuration, but customers commonly report noticeable spool improvement and throttle response. Not at all. The Monster Ram is a direct bolt-on replacement designed for DIY installation. Most installs take 45 minutes to 1.5 hours with basic hand tools. No tuning is required after install. We are also happy to install it for you here at Protech in Kamloops.
